About Dr. Troso's Work
For more than 25 years, Dr. Tiffany Troso-Sandoval explained diagnoses and treatment plans to women with breast and gynecologic cancers. She explained carefully, and she drew pictures. She also learned how little of that conversation survives the drive home.
The most important explanation of a woman's life happens in a short visit, on one of the hardest days she will ever have, when almost no one can absorb it. That is true in every exam room, including her own. Dr. Troso's book, podcast, and programs exist so that understanding can happen a second time, somewhere quieter, at the patient's own pace, so that she returns to her oncologist ready to follow the reasoning and ask better questions.
For Producers & Reporters
Dr. Troso gives interviews on breast and gynecologic cancers, treatment decisions, survivorship, and what new cancer research means for patients. She responds to media requests within 24 hours.
Story angles
Why brave faces cost patients care. Women learn that the right way to have cancer is cheerfully. In the infusion chair, "I'm fine" can cost a patient the dose adjustment or symptom relief she needed. An oncologist's view of performed bravery.
Awareness was achieved. Understanding was never built. "October sells a feeling. My patients needed an explanation." What a woman actually needs in the weeks after a diagnosis.
Why patients forget what the doctor said. Research on patient recall shows that much of what is said in a medical visit is forgotten soon after (Kessels, 2003). Why it happens, and what patients and care teams can do about it.
What this headline means for patients. Plain-English commentary on new findings from ASCO, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, and SGO: what changed, whom it applies to, and what it does not mean yet.
When a story calls for more than one voice, Dr. Troso can suggest a second expert, such as a survivor or a nurse navigator.

Speaking
Dr. Troso speaks to patient and advocacy audiences, clinical teams, and employers. Every talk rests on one conviction: a woman who understands her diagnosis and the reasoning behind her treatment is a better partner in her own care, and a better-prepared patient makes her care team's work easier.
The Most Dangerous Thing a Woman with Cancer Can Be Is Agreeable
For patients, survivors, advocacy groups, and women's organizations. Why capable women so often nod along in the exam room, and how to become an informed partner in your own care, the CEO of your cancer care, while strengthening the relationship with your oncologist.
The Real Reason Patients Keep Calling After Visits
For physicians, nurses, navigators, and cancer centers, including grand rounds. We think patients keep calling because they were not listening. They keep calling because they never really understood. Why understanding fails inside the visit, and practical ways care teams can help it happen afterward.
October Sells a Feeling. Patients Need an Explanation
For advocacy organizations, community events, and employers during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What decades of awareness achieved, and what a woman actually needs in the first weeks after a diagnosis.
When Cancer Comes to Work
For employers and HR teams. How treatment fits into a life that already has a job, and how managers and colleagues can support an employee through it.
Formats: keynote (30 to 60 minutes), clinical talk or grand rounds, panelist or moderator, workshop, in person or virtual.
Books for your audience: bulk copies, with signed bookplates, can be arranged for any event.
If you are a physician or care team leader, I want to assure you that this work is designed to send your patients
back to you better prepared and more confident in their care.
